When Family Members are Involved with the Website

Well it happened to me, finally. I learned my lesson when family members are involved. I'm not going to mention names for the sake of dignity, but this really upsets me and I have to move on.

I redesigned a website a while back and didn't think twice that a family member had already set it up. I thought it was just a small bump because everyone agreed that it needed to be redesigned. I go to work on it and even spend extra non-paying hours to optimize and add information for a better user experience. The site was finished and my code was sent off to a distant black box.

I have to admit that I was hesitant giving my code away and not knowing if it will be taken apart piece by piece. I offered hosting to keep an eye on it and use my husband's software for blogging and CMS for the client. This was all declined.

I discovered today that my new design has been launched on the site, without any early notice. I checked out the source code and almost cried. My code is no where to be found. My tableless CSS has been ignored and my layout sits in table data fields. As a modern web developer, this hurts.

I'm going over my options on how to correct this. I could call it off and give back the payment. That may be too drastic. I could wait and let them waste time and money on trying to figure it out themselves. No one knew that it would end up like this. I can offer help all I want, but that doesn't mean no one will take it. This has created a big red flag in my career.

It's too early for me to decide on a solution. I'm too disappointed to think reasonably.
